Dr. Julia G Prado is the head of the Viral Immune evasion and vaccine groupat the IrsiCaixa AIDS research institute ( in Barcelona, Spain.


Dr. Prado currently is the scientific director of the Germans Trias i Pujol research institute, one of the accredited centres of excellence by the Institute of Health Carlos III at the Campus Can Ruti where IrsiCaixa is based. Dr. Prado is a researcher with more than 15 years of research experience in the field of HIV-1 infection and T-cell immunology.


Dr. Prado has contributed to date to 46 publications in major international scientific journals (93% in Q1 and 20% as senior author) with h-index: 21 and more than 3,000 citations (Orcid ID: 0000-0002-5439-4645). Dr. Prado supervised graduate, master and pre-doctoral and post-doctoral research, and she is actively involved in commissions of trust from the Spanish National institutes of health.


Dr. Prado's laboratory has developed a transdisciplinary view of the HIV-1infection by combining tools from molecular virology, biochemistry and T-cell immunology, aiming to delineate the functional boundaries of antiviral CD8+ T-cell responses to develop novel immunotherapies. She has been able to foster long-standing national and international collaborations with the University of Oxford and University College of London in the United Kingdom, and with the African Health Research Institute in Durban South Africa.


Also, Dr. Prado is actively involved in activities in the frame of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) promoting the foundation of the Women in scienceworking group at the campus Can Ruti. She actively participated in science outreach activities for society, including a round table for gender issues in science, lectures onHIV-1 for educational purposes to primary and secondary school students and teachers. Also,

she is part of the eLIFE’s Ambassador program 2019 to promote good scientific practices in the context

of Open Science.
